An Airdrie angling club which gives young people an opportunity to enjoy fishing has received funding from the Ross and Liddell Community Bursary Scheme.
Delletts Angling Club is a recipient of the property management company’s fifth funding programme, which provides support to organisations all over Scotland.
The club was set up due to the lack of fishing clubs in Airdrie and surrounding areas. It promotes the sport and brings a small community together to provide a social activity for all.
The funding received from Ross and Liddell will be used to fund a yearly summer fishing trip for the Junior Delletts and encourage children to fish in local waters. The money will also be used to help with the cost of hiring a bus and buying engraved trophies and medals.
Club member, Brian McLaughlin said:
“The club started around thirty five years ago through word of mouth in the community and has been running ever since. It’s been passed through the generations, so it would be upsetting to see the club unable to continue due to financial problems.
“We now have founders of the club bringing their grandchildren along so it’s a great opportunity for everyone interested in fishing.
“This funding will allow us to treat the Junior Delletts by taking them to a trout fishery in Dunfermline. Last year we had to cancel the event due to lack of funds so we are very grateful to Ross and Liddell.”
The club was founded by regulars at the Delletts public house in Airdrie around thirty-five years ago. The Junior Delletts club was then introduced to allow children to enjoy the sport. Members still meet once every month.
Ross and Liddell specialises in property management and maintenance, as well as providing a comprehensive range of residential and commercial services, including sales, lettings, surveying and insurance.
Now in its fifth year, the Community Bursary Scheme was launched to provide support to organisations that make a vital difference in their community.
Delletts Angling Club is one of 31 groups to receive funding in this bursary year.

“It’s so important that organisations like Delletts Angling Club have access to funding sources to ensure young people get the chance to fish and enjoy themselves.
