A LOCAL environmental project has received funding from the Ross and Liddell Community Bursary Scheme.
The Clipperton Project – which is based on the banks of the River Clyde in Bowling - is a recipient of the property management company’s fifth funding programme, which provides support to organisations all over Scotland.
The group works with the local community to raise awareness of environmental issues around the Clyde and Forth Canal and the River Clyde.
Run by volunteers the project has been working along the canal since 2013, with offices and a workspace in Bowling since 2014.
The funding received from Ross and Liddell will go towards the cost of running ten community workshops on the theme of plastics in the water to encourage people to think about litter and its impact on the environment.
Volunteer Jain McIntyre said:
“We would like to run more regular activities and start weekly groups for people of all ages. This funding really is fantastic for the group.
“Our workshops will help people think about their link to the canal and the river Clyde in a more positive light, while encouraging more people to visit the area.”
Ross and Liddell specialises in property management and maintenance, as well as providing a comprehensive range of residential and commercial services, including sales, lettings, surveying and insurance.
Now in its fifth year, the Community Bursary Scheme was launched to provide support to organisations that make a vital difference in their community.
The Clipperton Project is one of 31 groups to receive funding in this bursary year. Glasgow property manager Colin Johnstone made the presentation at the group earlier this year.
Irene Devenny, managing director of Ross and Liddell, said:
“The bursary has really gone from strength to strength and the number of entries that we received for the 2015 scheme was fantastic.
“It’s so important that organisations like The Clipperton Project have access to funding sources to encourage people to think about their local environment and what a negative impact litter has.
“We are thrilled to offer our support and know that the funding will be put to good use.”
